6d) Retiring Rope

Explain when and how to retire a rope.

Retiring a rope doesn’t mean just tossing it in the trash. Once you’ve determined that it’s no longer safe to use, it’s important to ensure that no one else inadvertently picks it up and uses it.

When: Visible damage, excessive age, chemical exposure, loss of elasticity.
How: Dispose of safely, document retirement, inform others, and consider alternative uses.
