Chipmunks (ages 3-5)

4-week climbing classes

Prerequisites:

An insatiable desire to climb on anything and everything!

Parent Requirements:

  1. Parents are required to interact with their climber(s) during the class. Our instructor will show you how best to support your climber(s).
  2. Parents MUST be auto-belay certified by the 2nd class! Certifications on the auto-belays are free and can be obtained via a quick demonstration with our front desk staff. The certifications don’t need to be scheduled and can be completed after your climber’s first session. Please check in with our staff to get the auto-belay certification completed.
  3. Parents MUST be belay certified by the 3rd class! The cost of the Learn-to-Belay course is included in the Chipmunks registration cost. Parents can sign up for the Learn-to-Belay class here!
    1. In order to receive the discounted booking cost, please reserve a spot as a “ÜG Member” and answer one of the booking questions with: “Yes, my child is currently enrolled in a Chipmunks class”. If you skip this question, you may be charged the full cost of the class ($36) when you check-in for the class.

Pricing:

  • $90/4wk course for members, $120/4wk course for non-members

What to expect:

  • Small class sizes (a 3:1 child to instructor ratio is maintained).
  • Check in at the front desk. This is also where your Chipmunk will receive climbing shoes, if they choose. Climbing shoes are not required and not all kids want to wear them, so be prepared with closed toed athletic shoes.
  • You will be met by your instructor at the front desk and walked back to the Alcove all together.
  • Classes are 45 minutes long.
  • There may or may not be auto-belays involved. Some classes may be spent entirely on the boulder, traverse walls, or the ground.
  • Your Chipmunk will gain spatial awareness, motor control, and sensory experiences.

What’s included: These clubs are designed to solidify a climber’s foundation of basic and intermediate climbing technique and belaying through games, drills, and coaching. Through experiential and interactive learning, students will work to develop leadership skills, confidence, and teamwork by bonding with their teammates and challenging each other through climbing. All equipment (harness, shoes, Jul2 belay device) is provided by Übergrippen for club participants. Club members may bring their own personal equipment, if they wish.

Price:

    • $145/month members, $170/month non-members
    • At least one club t-shirt is required ($20)

Important Note: Children enrolled in programs at Übergrippen (including but not limited to Akademie, clubs, teams, camps, after school programs, etc) will be climbing with other children. Children will often be climbing partners with each other. This means YOUR CHILD WILL BE BELAYED BY OTHER CHILDREN ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM AND YOUR CHILD WILL BELAY OTHER CHILDREN. If you are not comfortable with this, please do not enroll your child in our group programs. We offer private guided climbing (fees apply) and can also instruct parents on these same belay skills (enroll in our adult Learn to Belay class) so that you can supervise your child’s climbing experience directly.

For more information, or to enroll your child in a club, send an email to youth@ugclimbing.com.
